Why WordPress?

Somebody asked me once… If I am such an experienced and talented PHP developer, then why use an off-the-shelf solution like WordPress.
My answer…. the same reason I don’t change my own oil. I know how to change my oil, but it’s way easier to just take my car to Jiffy Lube and let them do it. Why over complicate things?
If I had some totally groovy or super-innovative idea about what a blog should could be, I’d gladly roll my own code. As it stands, WordPress does everything I need, so it just made sense.
Besides, I don’t have the time to build something custom for myself. I’m a busy man!
