My Street Cred
Update: 09-04-2009
Recently, I’ve been continuing to receive multiple contacts from various sources about potential job opportunities. As such, I would like to mention that I am currently employed, and am not actively seeking a new job. That’s not to say that if a truly golden opportunity arose, I wouldn’t consider it. I simply want to make my current position know.

Overview
My name is Sean Fields and I’ve been a web developer for the past 10 years.
I began my career as a presentation layer developer, specializing in HTML, CSS,
and JavaScript, but over the years migrated to the back end in development with
PHP, MySQL, etc. all in a Linux environment.
In my experience, I’ve been called upon to tackle a host of various development
challenges including creating simple blog interfaces, to scratch building entire
e-commerce engines, with full product catalogs, shopping carts, and integration with
third party transaction gateways (Authorize.net, Cybersource, etc.) for the checkout
process.
I’ve worked extensively with multi tiered data integration solutions. Essential, taking
websites I’ve written and adding data support for third party applications using
various protocols (SOAP, REST, etc.), including various CRM and project management
packages, as well as client specific database services.
Working on a variety of different projects has also given me the opportunity to utilize
rich media solutions when appropriate, both in terms of the overall interface, as well
as content delivery in the form of streaming audio and video (both upload and
download). Recently, the majority of my interface work has been exclusively in
Adobe Flex, for both web and desktop deployment in the Adobe Integrated Runtime
(AIR). I began my work in Flex back in 2004, and am current through Flex 3
(ActionScript 3), including various third party libraries like PaperVision 3D, and
AMFPHP.
Through the course of my career, I’ve become well versed in best practices regarding
Information Architecture (IA), User Interface Design (UI), and the overall User
Experience (UX). I’ve take applications from concept, to hand-drawn thumbnails,
to interactive wireframes, to final release.
I’ve also spent a great deal of work in the area of data visulation, meaning I’ve
tracked performance and access metrics for sites I’ve created, and then used that
information to visually convey those results to the clients in a meaningful and useful
way. Essentially, creating application dashboards.
Most recently, my focus has shifted into application development for the iPhone.
In summary, I’m a well experienced problem solver. Whatever challenge might be put
in front of me, I feel confident that I can solve.

Recent Work Experience
Developer
6/2009 - Present Docudesk, Plano, TX
I was brought on board at Docudesk as a general web developer. My first project was a Flex based add-on to the DocQ web application, to allow viewing of online-published documents in a flip-book “magazine” type interface. An example of this interface is viewable above. Next, I was tasked with creating an iPhone application to serve as a companion piece to the web application.
Freelance Web Programmer
1/2009 - 6/2009
For the first part of 2009, I worked for myself as a freelance programmer. In
this time, I worked on a variety of projects including a Winter Sports themed social
networking / video sharing site, and a Flex based tourism site for Park City Utah.
Developer
9/2008 - 1/2009 Viewzi, Inc., Richardson, TX
I joined viewzi as a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) based web developer, but
also brought HTML, JavaScript, Flash, Flex, and ActionScript capabilities. Aside
from various involvement in a variety of development and data visualization projects,
my primary role was centered around maintaining and optimizing the development,
staging, and production server environments to standardize deployment practices
for the core Viewzi product, protect ourselves against outtages, and secure the
product.
Senior Developer
1/2003 - 8/2008 Farstar, Frisco, TX
I joined Farstar as a front end developer (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), but ultimately
because the senior developer of the LAMP based technology that powers it’s lead
generation and marketing endeavors. The role required consistent development in
PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (ajax), initially, along with custom
configuration of Apache for virtualhosts. As the company progressed, third party
integration became necessary, which required both REST and SOAP based architecture
solutions. Eventually, rich media solutions became a priority, so I was
required to create dynamic data frameworks to integrate with Flash via ActionScript
and Flex via both ActionScript and MXML. I was also responsible for designing and
creating the necessary database schemas for all projects, along with administrative
interfaces for data visualization. Finally, it was also my responsibility to caretake the
development and production server environments, which included new server
provisioning, maintenance / optimization / automation, load balancing for HTTP, and
replication for MySQL. This required extensive knowledge of the various distributions
of Linux. In particular: RHEL, Debian (etch), Darwin, CentOS, Ubuntu, and
FreeBSD.
Senior Site Developer
11/2000 - 6/2001 Sapient, Dallas, TX
At Sapient, my role as a Senior Site Developer was centered on presentation layer
delivery (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). This involved building interfaces provided by
Information Architects and Visual Designers from Photoshop, Fireworks, or Visio
files provided. I was also called upon to provide subject matter expertise during the
architectural design phase of a project as to the capabilities and limitations of the
different browser / system / os combinations.
